As many as 80 students of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Ashram Method Inter College in Mehroona village of Deoria in Uttar Pradesh suffered from stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea after eating. The incident occurred on Sunday night after students had finished their dinner. After dinner, some students began to experience vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, dizziness and chills.
Justice Divya Mittal said the condition of the children was stable and investigation into the case was ongoing and assured that action would be taken against those responsible.
An official statement released late Monday said some students at the public school had reportedly fallen ill due to food poisoning. The statement said all students were safe and medical teams remained at the school as a precaution.
Two students are undergoing treatment at Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College, while the remaining students are undergoing initial treatment by a team of doctors led by the school's chief medical officer (CMO).
District Magistrate Mittal and Superintendent of Police Sankalp Sharma came to the medical college to visit the students.
Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Administration Vinay Kumar Sahay said a team of Food Safety and Drug Administration inspected the kitchen and storage area of the premises and collected seven samples including pre-made bread, lentils, vegetables, chilli powder, Chickpeas, mustard oil and mixed pickles. The samples were collected in the presence of school principal Rajkumar Gupta and notices were issued about storage and kitchen defects.
Sahai said the samples have been sent to a food laboratory for testing and further action will be taken based on the results.
This government-run school has 326 students in grades 6 to 12.
Sources revealed that students reported eating “poori” and “chhole” the night before. They added that 'chhole' prepared during the day and served with 'poori' in the evening resulted in students falling sick.
