Recently, a woman in West Bengal was doing housework when she decided to take vegetables out of the bag. However, the simple act of picking vegetables turned out to be a nightmare for her. As soon as she put her hand into the bag, she felt bitten. However, her quick thinking may have saved her life.
In a recent case in Tuvanganj, West Bengal, a woman bought vegetables and kept the bags in her kitchen. Later, when she went to take out the potatoes and onions from the bag, she was bitten on her hand, which hurt. Instead of panicking, she immediately closed the bag. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that she had been bitten by a snake. Her family immediately rushed her to Cooch Behar MJN Medical College and Hospital.
According to the woman's family, they don't know what bit her because the bag of vegetables was closed. Later, when snake rescuers received a call, they arrived and identified the snake as venomous. Since the woman had closed the bag with the snake trapped inside, it was easy to identify the species of snake and plan the treatment for the bite.
The hospital authorities later shared World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines that treatment of snake bites must be started within 100 minutes to ensure that the patient's life can be saved. The woman is reportedly safe and recovering.
This isn't the first bizarre incident involving a snake bite. Earlier, a worker in Bihar, Santosh Lohar, was bitten by a venomous snake while working on the Rajauli railway line project. Instead of rushing to seek medical attention or calling the police, the man decided to retaliate and bit the snake not once or twice, but three times, resulting in its death. When asked about his strange reaction, he said that in his village, people believed that if a snake bit a person, the person had to bite it back twice to neutralize the venom.
