The incident occurred around 4:30 pm. The girl was seriously injured and pronounced dead after being sent to the hospital.
It was unclear whether the dog jumped from the building or was thrown from the building.
According to an official, the police are investigating the matter and are checking with the Thane Municipal Corporation to ascertain whether the owner of the dog had obtained the necessary permission or whether there was negligence.
The girl's body has been sent to a government hospital for post-mortem and investigation is ongoing.
The girl's mother told police she did not suspect foul play in her daughter's death.
