The founder of Rangaprabhath Theater was Kochunarayan Pillai.
Rangaprabhath Theater Company was established in 1970 under the guidance and support of Professor G Sankara Pillai, a well-known figure in the Malayalam theater industry.
Rangaprabhath Children's Theater is known as a home away from home for children. It is located in Alumthara village, Venjaramoodu, Thiruvananthapuram. It began in 1970 as an experiment to stimulate personal growth in children. It is applied in the field of drama education and focuses on children's character development, value creation and personality development. Ramprabha performs children's play shows in as many schools as possible in the state. It has an open-air theater and an attached indoor theater. It has facilities for training children and teenagers from 5 to 25 years old in arts, crafts and vocational activities.
The troupe was established in 1970 under the guidance and support of Professor G Sankara Pillai, a well-known figure in Malayalam theater circles.
In 1967, Kochunarayana Pillai came up with the idea of starting a children's theater while attending a theater festival organized by Sasthamkotta led by G. Shankara Pillai. In 1970, the Vamanapuram government opened a children's theater called Rangaprabhath Theatre. Professor G Sankara Pillai is famous for his play Pushpakiritam. The play 'Maddalamal' written by Shankara Pillai was performed across Kerala by child artistes of Rangaprabhath. He used the income to purchase 11 cents of land in the village of Alantala and built a small open-air theatre.
Rangaprabhath organizes various events every year such as National Foreign Language Drama Festival, Drama Seminar, Natarang, Nadan Kala Mela, Balavihar Mela, Seminars, Lectures and Research Drama Society. The government provides financial assistance to the Ranga Prabhas Theatre, which is billed as the country's first theater exclusively for children.
By 1988, the generation that originally belonged to this theater culture had grown up and started new careers. Children and adolescents are divided into three groups
Kadambam: Suitable for children (5 – 14 years old)
Kalari: suitable for youth group (15-30 years old)
Kalam: A full-fledged adult theater company.
