The driver fled the scene and collided with a car in Bishmuri, seriously injuring two others in the car.
The victims were identified as Sukran Roy (20), Jai Roy (11), Bappi Ghosh (21), Basudev Roy (22) and Naba Ghosh (26), all of Hatigarh village 1 under Gossaigaon division resident.
The injured were taken to hospital and are said to be in critical condition.
Senior police officers have attended the scenes of both incidents and inquiries are ongoing.
