The West Bengal government on Monday appointed Dr. Debasish Halder as the new director of the Department of Health Services (DHS).
Amid protests over the rape and murder of a doctor at a Kolkata hospital, the West Bengal government on Monday appointed Dr Debashish Halder as the new director of health services, officials said.
Halder, who in his previous assignment held joint DHS (non-communicable disease screening) duties, succeeds Dr. Siddharth Negi, they said.
The state government has also appointed Shubhanjan Das as secretary, health and family welfare department, they added.
The body of the female doctor was found at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Friday, triggering widespread protests among medical staff demanding workplace safety and the harshest punishment for the accused.
