The woman moved in with her father three years ago after her husband left her over alleged infidelity.
A 28-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her estranged husband and lover in Chhattisgarh's Kaberdham district and the two buried the body in a forest, police said on Monday.
They said that before committing the crime, the two accused watched the Bollywood film “Drishyam” to learn how to hide a body and evade arrest.
The incident took place on July 19 and the police on Sunday arrested two accused, the woman's estranged husband Lukesh Sahu (29) and her romantic partner Raja Ram Sahu, an official said. 26 years old).
Kabirdham Deputy Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar told reporters that on July 22, Ramkhilawan Sahu, a resident of Kalyanpur village, reported to the Lohara police station that his daughter was missing, following which a search was launched for her.
The woman's husband left her three years ago due to alleged infidelity, following which she moved to her father's house in Kayanpur.
Under a court order, Lush paid the woman monthly support for her three children, the official said.
Lush told police he was deeply in debt as he paid monthly alimony to her.
The woman was in a relationship with Raja Ram from the same village.
The official said that Raja Ram told police that he was tired of the woman's frequent demands for money and he allegedly gave her Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and electronic items from his shop.
He said the two men knew each other and wanted to get rid of the woman, so decided to kill her.
He said that based on technical evidence, call details and interrogation of the suspects, police zeroed in on the two men and captured them.
The accused told the police that they had been formulating a plan to murder the woman since a month, during which they watched the Ajay Devgn-starrer “Drishyam” to learn how to murder her and hatch a plot to evade arrest.
The official said that Raja Ram watched the thriller four times while Lukesh watched it once.
On July 19, Raja Ram called the woman and rode a two-wheeler with her to Ghanikhuta forest. Lush also arrived there as planned and two men allegedly strangled the woman with a sari, he said.
“The duo then buried the body at the valley bottom and threw her two-wheeler and mobile phone into the Karanala barrage. The accused also hid her ornaments in the ground near the electricity poles in the village. They dug a hole for the burial The dead farm implements were thrown into a creek near a public school,” he said.
Police have recovered the victim's body, vehicle, jewelery and items used in the crime, the official said, adding that the accused was arrested on Sunday.
He said further investigation into the incident was ongoing.
