Sanjay Roy faces new charges that he obtained a housewife's phone number and made nuisance calls on the pretense of helping her buy medicine for her son.
Sanjay Roy has been arrested for the rape and murder of a female postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, after allegedly taking the drug from the doctor's prescription, The Times of India reported. Harassed a woman after giving her her phone number.
About three months ago, the housewife took her son to RG Kar Hospital for treatment, where she met Roy, who helped her buy medicines. The report quoted sources as saying that Roy interacted with her and obtained her phone number through a prescription.
Roy allegedly called her frequently. Not only did he harass the housewife over the phone, he also forced her to meet in person and claimed to have been threatened. The Kolkata Police obtained the housewife's phone number from Roy's call record (CDR) and summoned her to La Bazar for questioning.
Roy had many failed marriages. Since he is a citizen volunteer with the Police Welfare Committee, he has easy access to various departments of the hospital. Citizen volunteers are contract workers who are recruited to assist police in a variety of tasks, including traffic management and disaster response. Their monthly salary is about Rs 12,000.
He was reportedly involved in a scam in which the hospital charged admission fees to relatives of patients. If a patient's relatives cannot find a bed in a government hospital, he will also charge them to find a bed in a nearby nursing home. Police also found pornographic content on his phone during the investigation.
The RG Kar rape and murder case caused a stir across the country. On Friday, the half-naked body of a female doctor who was a second-year thoracic department student and performed PGT was found in the seminar hall of the hospital. She was on duty Thursday night and suffered multiple injuries. Her father claimed she was raped and murdered inside the hospital after a preliminary autopsy report revealed she had been sexually abused before her murder.
Roy was arrested after his activities were found to be suspicious and he was captured on CCTV entering and exiting the seminar hall. Roy allegedly admitted to the crime during interrogation.
