A soldier who lost four of his family members in the recent landslides in Wayanad has made a valuable contribution to the relief operations in the affected area despite suffering a personal tragedy.
Junior officer Jinosh Jayan, who belongs to 321 Medium Regiment, hails from Chooralmala in Wayanad, which was hit by landslides.
He lost four family members in the disaster – his uncle, his cousin, his cousin's wife and their 21-year-old daughter, the Defense Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
Despite facing devastating circumstances, Ginoche's parents managed to escape to a safer place.
According to reports, after learning about the landslide, the soldier requested emergency leave and traveled to his hometown.
Upon arrival, he immediately joined the rescue operations along with Army HADR, SOG and NDRF teams.
“His local knowledge proved invaluable as he helped them navigate the challenging terrain,” the statement read.
Ginoche relied on his professional knowledge as a surveyor to draw hand-drawn maps, which greatly assisted the rescue team in their operations.
“He has been an integral part of the ongoing HADR mission in the region since August 1, working tirelessly to locate additional victims,” the statement read.
His outstanding contribution during this challenging period was recognized and commended by the Director General of Police, Mr. Ajith Kumar, and the Inspector General, Mr. Sethu Rahman, the statement added.
