A culvert collapsed recently in Mardamanikchak block of Kartik Nagar in Butni. Unfortunately, at the same moment, a motorcyclist was crossing it.
In Malda, West Bengal, the Ganges flooded around 12 villages on Butni Island in Manichak block, causing problems for around 12,000 nearby residents. A similar situation occurred in Manikchak's neighboring neighborhood Ratua 1. In view of the situation, District Magistrate Nitin Singhania went to Manichak to lead the rescue operation. According to reports, a culvert (a small tunnel) collapsed in Putnikatik Nagar area.

This resulted in the motorcyclist and his bike being swept away by the water. The incident was captured on a local's mobile phone and the video went viral online. However, the motorcycle rider almost lost his life due to the timely intervention of locals who quickly rescued him from the water. The bike could not be saved.
Ganga water has flooded several areas in Butni for the past two days due to embankment breaches. On that fateful day, floodwaters flowed under a culvert in Kartik Nagar. The culvert collapse has caused panic among residents as it is their only mode of commuting.
Meanwhile, villages of Keshapur, Kalutontora, Ratanpur, Chama and Manik Nagar were flooded on Sunday following an embankment breach. Floods inundated Bhubantola, Boro Karkatitola, Ashoknagar Colony, Champanagar, Gila on Monday Jilabditola, Kashimnagar and Rahatpur are other villages.
Justice Nitin Singhania said at least 300 families had been moved to safer places and given relief supplies. He also arranged for electricity supply to the displaced families. In this situation, 11 flood shelters have been opened and about 1,200 households have been moved to safer places. Six health camps have also been set up.
