India celebrated its 78th Independence Day on Thursday, with world leaders including Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni and Canadian leader Justin Trudeau paying tribute to the country and its leaders. Prime Minister Modi thanked many world leaders for their I Day wishes.
While most leaders of South Asia's neighbors cited enduring friendships rooted in history and strengthening bilateral ties when greeting their respective leaders, presidents and prime ministers from other regions spoke of strategic ties and regional spirit.
'Indo-Canadians are an integral part of national identity'
Trudeau expressed congratulations and said the Indo-Canadian community is an integral part of Canada's national identity. He said Canada has one of the largest and most vibrant Indian diasporas in the world and their contributions play a vital role in shaping the country.
On behalf of the Canadian government, he extended blessings to India and said that Canada is always ready to cooperate with India to make the lives of the two peoples better. “Today, we join the people of India and Indo-Canadians in celebrating Indian Independence Day,” he said.
Trudeau said that Canada has a population of more than 1.3 million Indians and is one of the largest and most dynamic Indian diasporas in the world. “Our country's diverse Indo-Canadian community is an integral part of our national identity. They play a vital role in shaping Canada and making us stronger and better. Today, we celebrate their work in strengthening us country and ensure our prosperity,” he said.
Important pillar for the future of strategic partnerships: Meloni
Italian leader Giorgia Meloni posted a photo of herself and Modi at the G7 summit in June to express her wishes for India's Independence Day. She said the strategic partnership between the two countries is very important for the future.
“On the occasion of this 78th Independence Day, I would like to express my heartfelt wishes to the people of India, and especially to the many Indians who follow this page. The ties between Italy and India are getting closer and closer, and I believe that together we will achieve great things achievements. Our strategic partnership is an important pillar for the future @narendramodi” she wrote in a post published in Italian on X.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar just visited the Maldives last week to restart bilateral relations between India and the Maldives. President Dr. Mohammad Muizur said on Heartfelt congratulations to the people of India.
He added: “Our enduring friendship is rooted in history and continues to grow, contributing to the prosperity and development of the Maldives and the region. Going forward, I am confident that our partnership will continue to strengthen, driving shared prosperity and achieving common goals .

Muizur's cabinet colleague, Foreign Minister Musa Zamel, extended warm greetings and best wishes to Jaishankar, the government and people of India. “Wishing the people of India continued peace, progress and prosperity, and a stronger and vibrant bilateral partnership between #Maldives and #India,” he said in a post on X.
Former Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Chairman of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party, and former Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid also sent greetings. “As India moves towards its goal of #ViksitBharat, we remain grateful for all the support India has extended to the security and welfare of the Maldives and the Indian Ocean region. May the time-honored friendship between the two peoples of India and Maldives endure.
Macron spoke in Hindi, and Putin called India “a well-deserved authority on the world stage.”
French President Macron also expressed his wishes in Hindi and English and greeted India on Independence Day. He said he remembered the warm welcome he received when he visited India in January and looked forward to “working with my friend @NarendraModi to achieve the ambitious goals we have set for our strategic partnership”.

Russian President Putin sent a congratulatory message to President Drupadi Murmu and Modi on this occasion. “We attach great importance to our special strategic partnership with India. I am convinced that the consistent implementation of the agreements reached after our recent talks in Moscow will contribute to the further development of Russian-Indian multifaceted cooperation.
The Russian President said that this is undoubtedly in the interests of the friendly peoples of the two countries and also meets the requirements of consolidating security and international stability. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on X: “India enjoys well-deserved authority on the world stage and plays an important and constructive role in international affairs. We sincerely congratulate our Indian friends on Independence Day!

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken predicted a bright future for the U.S.-India strategic relationship, saying the two countries share a deep bond built on a shared commitment to democracy, freedom and human dignity.
Blinken congratulated the people of India on the eve of India's Independence Day: “On this important day, we celebrate the rich and diverse history of the Indian people and the bright future of the U.S.-India relationship.”
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy congratulated “the people of India and Indians around the world on the 77th anniversary of independence” and said on the 1st: “In Delhi, I saw the British and Indian people living together Strength.
