Six elephants, including two calves, entered Raj College Colony on Thursday morning, wreaking havoc and killing an elderly resident of the colony, new delhi tv the report said.
Bindra claimed that when the elephants rampaged through the area, a “hula” team equipped with iron rods and burning torches was called in to chase them away. She also claimed that the team operates with full knowledge of the situation in the forest department.
“I now want to hear from @moefcc and @ForestDeptWB about the horrific harassment, torture and killing of an elephant in #Jhargam #WestBengal by the 'Hula Party' in full view, if not official recognition, ” she said.
The 'Hulla' party is tasked with driving elephants from farmland, using methods such as spiked sticks and fireballs, which were banned by the Supreme Court in 2018 after Bindra and other activists filed a public interest litigation (PIL) .
“Contempt of Court: @SupremeCourtIND has completely banned the use and throwing of fireballs to drive away elephants. This is WP-489/2018 and for what it is worth, I am the petitioner,” she noted.
