A boy has been charged with stone-pelting after he was injured when a DJ speaker from a car in the procession fell and hit him during freedom fighter Avantibai Lodhi's Shobha Yatra, police said on Saturday , leading to increased community tensions.
The incident took place in Khair Nagar area on Friday night following an argument over a DJ, city police superintendent Ayush Vikram Singh told PTI.
The boy's family demanded that the use of DJ speakers be stopped, while workers from the Bharatiya Janata Party and Hindu groups demanded the arrest of those suspected of stone-pelting.
After receiving information about the incident, several people, including BJP leader Kamal Dutt Sharma, gathered at Budhana Gate Chowki.
Senior Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada also reached the spot at midnight. Earlier, SP (City) Singh and SP (Crime) Awanish Kumar reached the spot and pacified the people on both sides.
“A DJ boom box fell from a car in the parade and hit a young boy on the head, injuring him. Family, relatives and others in the community were outraged and demanded the DJ be stopped, which led to a A dispute.
No case has been registered in connection with the incident, he said, adding that CCTV footage of the place and surrounding areas was being checked to identify the miscreants who allegedly hurled stones at the procession.
