Health services were affected in West Bengal for the tenth consecutive day on Sunday as junior doctors in government hospitals continued their work stoppage to demand justice for the woman doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Since the outpatient departments (OPDs) of government hospitals are closed on Sundays, there is less footfall during peak hours, while senior doctors visit the emergency departments to treat the patients who visit them.
“We are not out to impact the health service. We can understand the issues faced by patients, but in the context of the rape and murder of doctors on duty, our protest makes perfect sense. Is this what we expect when we go to work? We will continue to protest, Until our sister gets justice and the government arranges full security for us.
On August 9, the body of this female graduate intern was found in a seminar hall of the hospital.

The Calcutta High Court on August 13 ordered the transfer of the investigation of the case from the Kolkata Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which began investigation on August 14.
