The defendant, who was driving under the influence, became angry and argued when a police officer asked the defendant to produce his driver's license and other documents.
A 35-year-old man arrested for drunken driving allegedly manhandled and threatened a police constable on duty in Mumbai while claiming to be the son of a senior police officer, an official said on Sunday.
Versova police officials said the incident took place in Four Bungalows area of Andheri district on Friday, following which the accused was arrested.
He said the constable stopped the accused, identified as Vikas Mishra, who had provided security at events in the city, while checking for drunk driving.
The defendant was found to be driving a car under the influence of alcohol. When the officers asked him to produce his driving license and other documents, the accused became angry and started arguing with the police, the official said.
He said the accused insulted and threatened the police officer, calling his father a “DSP” (deputy superintendent of police).
A person present captured video of the incident, which later went viral on social media.
After the incident, the accused was taken to the local police station, arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Act and the Motor Vehicles Act.
The defendant was then taken to the local court where he admitted his mistake. He was released after paying a fine of Rs 10,000, police said.
