“A man who was 'hitchhiking' with her criminally assaulted her and raped her. We have registered a rape case and started investigation,” police said.
A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by an unidentified biker with whom she was hitchhiking in the early hours of Sunday, a senior police officer said.
According to East District Superintendent of Police Raman Gupta, the woman, a final year degree student of a city college, was returning home to Hebagodi after a party in Koramangala.
“A man in the 'elevator' she was traveling in criminally assaulted her and raped her. We have registered a rape case and started investigation,” Gupta told reporters here.
He said that prima facie it appeared that she had gone to Koramangala to attend a party.
“There is only one suspect. The man who gave her a ride is suspected to be the rapist and our investigation is ongoing,” the officer said.
According to Gupta, he and other police officers arrived at the scene and spoke with the victims and their relatives.
“We have gathered all the information and formed five teams. We are investigating further and will arrest the culprits soon.
