Rajveer, who was staying at the PWD guesthouse in Bareilly, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself late at night on Saturday.
A 46-year-old man, reportedly the driver of an Uttar Pradesh minister, was found hanging at a state guesthouse in Bareilly on Sunday, police said.
The incident took place at the Public Works Department (PWD) guest house on Civil Lines, Bareilly district headquarters, they said.
Kotwali station house officer (SHO) Dinesh Sharma said the deceased was identified as Rajveer Singh, a resident of Barabanki district and was reportedly a member of the livestock and dairy industry. Driver for Development Minister Dharampal Singh.
Sharma said Rajveer, who was staying at the PWD guesthouse in Bareilly, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself late at night on Saturday.
The SHO said the matter came to light after several calls to Rajveer went unanswered on Sunday, after which the minister's gunmen reached the guest room where the victim said he was staying and found the door locked.
They said Rajveer was found hanging from the noose with headphones in his ears when he opened the door.
Sharma said the body has been sent to an autopsy facility for autopsy and the victim's family has been informed about the matter.
Minister Dharampal Singh, a BJP MLA from Allah Assembly constituency in Bareilly district, often visits the area on weekends.
Police said he was elsewhere at the time of the incident.
