A day after police arrested five suspects for gang-raping a mentally challenged minor girl on a bus in Dehradun, the victim's father demanded a “bulldozer operation” on the accused's house. According to reports, the 14-year-old victim, a resident of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, was waiting for a Punjab-bound bus at Delhi's Kashmir Gate Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) when the accused bus The driver and conductor at Dehradun station offered her a ride to Dehradun. After reaching Dehradun, the accused parked the bus at a secluded area of ISBT and attacked her along with three other men.
'We want bulldozing justice'
“We want bulldozers to bring justice and the government should not let the accused go and raze their houses,” said Mohammad Farooq, the mayor of the victim's hometown.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajey Singh, the entire incident came to light when a guard noticed a girl sitting alone on a bench at ISBT Dehradun on the night of August 12-13.
“The girl was rescued and admitted to a child rights shelter. It took the minor four days to explain her plight,” SSP Singh said.
Police noted that CCTV footage was retrieved and the minor was shown the identity of one of the accused. Based on the information provided by the suspects, the police arrested all five accused, including two drivers, two conductors and a cashier from Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, the accused took turns raping the minor inside the bus parked at ISBT in Dehradun. All five accused have been booked under the POCSO Act and sent to judicial custody.
