The Calcutta High Court on August 14 ordered the CBI to take over the investigation of the case from the Kolkata Police.
On August 9, Roy, a citizen volunteer with the Kolkata Police, discovered the body of a postgraduate trainee doctor in the seminar hall of the state-run institution and was arrested the next day.
A local court on Monday allowed the CBI to conduct a polygraph test on Sanjay Roy, who is accused of raping and murdering a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, an official said.
He told PTI that the CBI is yet to schedule a date for the test.
The rules require the defendant to be brought before a magistrate, who will ask him whether he agrees to take a polygraph test, the official said.
“The court has allowed us to take a polygraph test on Roy. We have not scheduled any date for the test. But there are still some processes that are not completed,” he added.
Roy, a citizen volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was arrested on August 9, a day after the body of a postgraduate trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the state-run facility.
