The Bombay High Court has taken a proactive stance against violent protests against the sexual assault of two kindergarten students in Bhadrapur area of Maharashtra's Thane district.
A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Prithviraj Chavan will hear the case on Thursday. living method reported.
Earlier on Wednesday, a local court extended till August 26 the police custody of a man arrested for allegedly sexually abusing two girls at a school in Bhadrapur town of Thane district.
The accused, an attendant at the school, was produced before a magistrate at Kalyan in Thane district amid elaborate security arrangements.
Internet services were suspended in Bhadrapur in Maharashtra's Thane district on Wednesday, a day after massive protests erupted over the alleged sexual abuse of two kindergarten girls. Officials said as many as 72 people were arrested in connection with violence during the riots.
At least 17 city policemen and around eight railway policemen were injured in stone-pelting incidents at the railway station and other areas of Bhadrapur during Tuesday's protests, they said.
A large number of police personnel have been deployed across Bhadrapur to maintain law and order and the situation in the town has returned to normal.
The entire town of Bhadrapur nearly came to a standstill on Tuesday as thousands of protesters blocked station tracks and stormed school buildings, where two girls were sexually abused by school cleaners last week.
During the protests, protesters threw rocks at police and vandalized school buildings. Police charged at protesters with canes to disperse them and clear the tracks for trains to move on.
An FIR has been registered in connection with the violence at Bhadrapur railway station and 32 people have been arrested, said Government Railway Police (GRP) Ravindra Shisve.
“Seven to eight railway policemen, including officers, were injured in the stone-pelting incident,” he said.
“The situation today is normal and under control,” he said.
