The Supreme Court on Thursday, hearing a suo motu petition related to the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, noted several flaws in the preliminary investigation conducted by the Kolkata Police. The Supreme Court held that Sandip Ghosh, the former head of the medical facility, did not take appropriate steps in the case and asked who he was protecting.
