Mathematics in Karare also has a unique history.
The Guru Raghavendra Puja Festival is held in Puttur for two days with great pomp and pageantry.
Recently, Guru Raghavendra Swami's Aradhana Mahotsava was celebrated with devotion and reverence in Puttur around 1975 AD. Mathematics in Karare also has a unique history. Raghavendra Math was established in 1978 in Karare. Today, let us take a look at the unique history of Raghavendra Math. It is reported that after visiting Mantralayam for the first time, U Poovapa and Babu Naik of Kallare returned to Puttur and firmly decided that Raya Mrittika Brindavan should also be established in Puttur. When they expressed their wishes to local residents, the villagers expressed their willingness to provide various assistance. A woman donated 50 cents of land for the mathematics building. Raghavendra Swami Math was also established at the same place. The inauguration ceremony of the School of Mathematics was presided over by Hiriya Pejavara Swamiji Amrita.
Thereafter, worship of Raghavendra Swamy is performed here every year with great enthusiasm. On the day of worship, devotees from all over Puttur visit this math center to witness the worship of Guru Raghavendra Swami. Thousands of devotees gather here for the two-day worship service. By offering Annaprasada to all the devotees who come, it is to be noted here that anyone who visits Math will leave without taking Annaprasada.
Just like thousands of devotees gather at Mantralayam, in the same way thousands of devotees flock to Kalare's Mathematics. Another feature of this Math is that when the abbot of Mantralayam comes to the Dakshina Kannada area, he never leaves without visiting this Math.
Raghavendra Swami was a Vaishnava scholar, theologian and saint. He is also known as Sudha Parimalachaya. His works are diverse and include commentaries on the works of Madhva, Jayatirtha and Vyasatirtha, and major Interpretations of the Upanishads, and treatises on Purva Mimamsa. From 1621 to 1671 he served as the matha pope of Kumbakonam.
