The Thane district education officer was suspended on Friday for not reporting the Bhadrapur sexual assault case on time, while the BMC education officer faces the same penalty for not installing CCTV cameras in government schools in the city.
Announcing the news at a press conference at the BMC headquarters, Government School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar said the action will send a very strong message that the government will not tolerate such negligence.
Thane district education officer (DEO) Balasaheb Rakshe and BMC education officer Rajesh Kankal have been suspended, he said.
“Rakshe was suspended for not reporting the sexual assault case in Bhadrapur on time so that prompt action could be taken. Kankal was suspended for not installing CCTV cameras in BMC schools. I have been following this issue for two years and even now I am still working It’s ongoing and the cameras haven’t been installed yet,” Kesaka said.
