A man from Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district has been arrested for allegedly killing his 22-year-old niece, with whom he was having an extramarital affair when she decided to marry someone else.
The accused, Manikant Dwivedi, after murdering his niece, disposed of her body in an under-construction building and threw her mobile phone in a bus to mislead the police.
Police said the victim Mansi Pandey went to the house of her aunt, Manikant's wife, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and after she did not return from there, her father lodged a police complaint against Manikant special. According to media reports, the victim's father Ramsagar Pandey dropped her at his house in Manikant around 3 pm on Monday. The father claimed: “We went to our hometown and then I went to Lucknow. On Wednesday, he (Manikant) called me and said Mansi was missing and her phone was switched off. He told me that Mansi had eloped , but I doubted him and filed a complaint.
The victim's father further revealed that Mansi's wedding was originally scheduled for November 27. “He (Manikant) did not want this to happen and had been asking her not to get married,” the father added.
