    'There's a lot of…': CBI officer's evidence in Dr RG Kar rape-murder case

    A CBI team on Sunday conducted raids at the residence of former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh, a day after the central probe agency lodged an FIR over financial irregularities in the hospital

    The Central Bureau of Investigation on Sunday conducted polygraph tests on the prime accused in the alleged rape and murder of Sanjay Roy, a postgraduate trainee doctor of RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, and conducted raids at the residence of former RG Kar principal Sandip and Ghosh and several others.

    Asked if any concrete evidence had been found in connection with the case, a CBI official said: “Bahut kuch hai…” (there are many). In response to a reporter asking for an update on the case, the official also said, “We will send you a press briefing.”

    A team of the CBI conducted a raid at the residence of former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh on Sunday, a day after the central investigation agency lodged an FIR over financial irregularities at the hospital.

    The CBI is also currently conducting searches at a number of locations as part of its ongoing investigation into financial irregularities.

    The CBI on Saturday tested six persons, including Sandeep Ghosh, in connection with the Kolkata rape and murder case, after a special court in Kolkata allowed the CBI to conduct polygraph tests. A team of polygraph experts flew from Delhi's Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) to Kolkata to conduct the test.

    The Silda Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court on Thursday also allowed the CBI's request to conduct polygraph tests on controversial former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh and five others in connection with the case .

    Among the seven people involved in the case, one was a close associate of citizen volunteer Roy, and the remaining four were medical graduate students of RG Kar, who were on duty at the hospital on the night of August 8th to 9th.

    Roy (33), a citizen volunteer of Kolkata Police, was arrested by Kolkata Police on August 10, a day after the body of the 31-year-old doctor was found in the seminar hall of the medical college.

    The Calcutta High Court on August 13 ordered that the investigation be transferred from the Kolkata Police to India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

    Meanwhile, CBI sleuths conducted simultaneous raids at the residences of former medical superintendent and RGKMCH vice-chancellor Sanjay Vashisth Ghosh and 13 others in and around Kolkata to investigate, officials said Alleged financial irregularities at the institute.

    The CBI also raided the residences and offices of those providing supplies for the management and care of patients.

    Sunday marked the 17th consecutive day of shutdown of junior doctors, severely affecting health services in Bangladesh. The horrific crime sparked protests from doctors and citizens across the country.
