According to Local 18, thousands of acres of land in the region are dedicated to sugarcane cultivation. Farmers mentioned that they have been growing the same crops for the past 50 years. They say they are satisfied with their profits and are not considering switching to any other crop. A farmer said, “We have been doing the same work for the past 50 years. As of today, we earn about Rs 60,000 per acre. For such high returns, we have never shown interest in other crops.
The farmer further mentioned that when sugarcane prices were as low as Rs 200 per ton, they continued to grow the same crop on their land. Through interviews, farmers made a demand of the government. “We wish to request the government to take appropriate steps to set up a sugar factory in our area,” they said.
