The state's Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Susindro said there have been several instances of people leaving petrol stations after refueling without paying.
Manipur Minister L Susindro said police will be deployed at petrol stations in the state.
He warned fuel retailers at a press conference that legal action would be taken if they refused to sell the fuel while it was in stock.
The state's Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Susindro said there have been several instances of people leaving petrol stations after refueling without paying.
“Such incidents have led to the closure of many petrol stations due to financial losses,” he said.
“We will deploy police personnel and food and public distribution department staff at petrol pumps,” he said, appealing to people not to indulge in extortion.
With several filling stations in the Imphal valley closed, the region is plunged into a severe fuel crisis.
“Legal action will be taken against petrol pump operators who refuse to sell fuel despite storing it. The state has enough fuel,” Susindro said.
He also said that frequent landslides along national highways have disrupted the transportation of LPG cylinders in the state, causing shortage.
