Doctors protesting against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in West Bengal on Wednesday objected to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's statement that “an FIR could ruin their future”. Doctors who have been on the streets since the rape and murder at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College have decided to continue their protest despite Banerjee urging them to end the strike and return to work.
“I support the agitation of junior doctors. They are protesting because their colleagues are being raped and murdered. We will not take any action against you but I appeal to you to join the job. The Supreme Court has also asked doctors to join the job,” Banerjee told Trinamool He said this while speaking at the foundation day function of the Congress student wing.
“The Supreme Court has also called upon junior doctors to join the effort. People must remember that the SC said that it is the state government that should take action. We did not take action. Reacting to Banerjee's appeal, one of the protesters, a former student of RG Kar Medical College, said the chief minister's words sounded like a passive threat.

Union minister and BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar slammed Banerjee for her remarks and alleged that she was trying to threaten doctors.
“She is threatening the doctors. She has lost her mental stability. Otherwise what on earth does she mean by this? I want to tell her that no matter how hard you try, no one is afraid of you in Bangladesh anymore. If anyone encounters any problems, we will provide them with legal assistance.
