News18 has learned that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has transferred and posted several senior superintendent of police (SSP) and superintendent of police (SP) level officials in the poll-bound Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources revealed that the commission has directed the Jammu and Kashmir government to provide a post of SP and SSP in Srinagar, Baramulla, Handwara and Kupwara by 5 pm on Thursday by the Indian Police. Bureau (IPS) officers as existing officers have been transferred.

IPS officer Nalin Prabhat has been appointed as Director General of Police (Operations and Security), Jammu and Kashmir, till September 30, 2024. , term until September 30.

Jammu and Kashmir will go to polls in three phases starting from September 18, covering 24 constituencies. The second phase for 26 seats will be held on September 25, and the third phase for 40 seats will be held on October 1. The counting of votes will be completed on October 4, and the election will be completed by October 6.
Ahead of announcing the polling schedule, the Election Commission has asked the Union Territory to transfer officials who will be directly involved in the polls but are not eligible to continue in their respective posts.
The poll body directed that any official directly related to elections shall not continue to serve in the current district or revenue district if he is serving in his home district or has completed three years in the district out of the last four years.
Additionally, the pollster said any official who is completing a three-year term in the United Emirates next month should also be transferred. For Jammu and Kashmir, the cut-off of three years is on or before September 30.
