Uttar Pradesh police have arrested two boys in connection with the double suicide case in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh. The bodies of two girls were found on a tree outside a village in Farrukhabad on Tuesday. The two boys arrested, Deepak and Pawan, are believed to have been in a relationship with the deceased girl.
Police said the girls committed suicide after they discovered both boys were cheating on them with other girls. The two arrested will be brought to court on Saturday.
According to family members, the two girls, aged 15 and 18, went to attend Janmashtami on Monday night but did not return. Later, their bodies were found hanging in a mango orchard on Tuesday morning.
The necks of the two girls are tied at the two ends of the dupatta stretched across the tree.
While the police claimed the death was a case of double suicide based on investigation findings and post-mortem report, the family claimed the minor was murdered.
After the incident, Samajwadi chief Akhilesh Yadav asked the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government to quickly investigate the case, saying such incidents create a terrible atmosphere in the society.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said safety is the right of every daughter of India and justice is the right of every suffering family. The congressman shared a video of the victim's father saying the entire investigation so far is “a sham.”
