The BMRDA plans to develop self-sufficient towns on the outskirts of IT cities in Bidadi, Solur and Nandagudi.
Proposals to develop suburbs on the outskirts of Bengaluru are once again gaining traction. The Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) plans to develop projects in the IT city suburbs of Bidadi, Solur near Magadi and Nandagudi in Hosakote ) to develop self-sufficient towns. The decades-old proposal is now being revived.
Bidadi will actually be adopted first, according to officials in the three towns. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who is in charge of Bengaluru development projects, is launching the project. As part of the preparations, the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority has written to Namma Metro to study the possibility of connecting these three areas with the metro.
A letter has been written to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) requesting that infrastructure be set up to supply drinking water to these suburbs respectively. “Bidadi is covered by four highways. As a result, a comprehensive township development plan for Bidadi has been developed. The town will have commercial buildings such as logistics parks, data centers and residential units.
Nandagudi has been selected for the construction project of Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway. In addition, Nelamangala and Solur, which are closer to Bengaluru, have also been selected. However, earlier, Bengaluru's Namma Metro hit the headlines for its massive expansion, proposing to add 129 kilometers to its network, called Phase IV.
According to Deccan Herald, the move is aimed at bridging the connectivity gap between remote and suburban areas and addressing the lack of metro connectivity in the core areas of the city.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) proposes to build a new line and expand the existing Purple Line and Green Line in four directions: Bidadi (Mysulu Road), Harohalli (Kanacapura Road), Attibele (Ho Sur Road) and Kunigal Cross (Tumakuru Road, near Nelamangala).
