Uttar Pradesh police will implement a ban on e-rickshaws from next week to ease traffic in Ghaziabad. The ban was triggered by traffic congestion caused by e-rickshaws, affecting vehicles traveling to Moradabad, Rampur and Lucknow via Hapur Road Tiraha and Bus Adda.
Preparations are underway for a ban on e-rickshaws on Hapur Road in Ghaziabad after a comprehensive investigation and successful trials on NH9. The first phase of the ban will be implemented from Purana Bus Adda to Dasna Flyover. E-rickshaws will still be allowed to operate within the district.
Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Mishra said the ban will come into effect from September 1 to 2. The guidelines and new rules will be communicated to the public on Thursday to minimize inconvenience. The ban will particularly affect areas around the old bus stand, RDC flyover and Hapur Road Chungi.
The e-rickshaws will be stopped before Hapur Road junction. Passengers then need to take a car, bus or walk about 50 meters to reach Hapur Road. Car drivers have been instructed to pick up and drop off passengers only in designated lanes to avoid traffic congestion.
Police hope the plan will improve traffic flow. However, there was widespread dissatisfaction among the people. Many people are frustrated by the additional costs. Previously, e-rickshaws provided direct routes, but with the new ban, passengers will pay double the fare. First, they will pay for an e-rickshaw ride to Hapur Road and then pay for a car to continue their journey.
