In another post, he shared an audio clip of a conversation with an Airtel executive, who explained that his number was suspended on the instructions of the West Bengal Cyber Police due to “fraudulent activities”.
“So, the police at #MamataBanerjee blocked my phone number. I said too much about #KolkataDoctorDeath. They thought they were going to silence me 🙂 It's called Airtel, that's what they call it,” Majumder commented.
Majumder said of the suspension CNN-News18“I have not received any communiqué from the West Bengal police. The Department of Telecommunications has informed me that they are investigating the matter. My post is public.”
Targeting West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Majumder criticized the act as “illegal” and a form of “dictatorship”.
“This behavior is illegal, this is dictatorship. They should provide evidence for these accusations. My outgoing and incoming calls are blocked,” he asserted.
Majumder also questioned the link between Airtel and the West Bengal government, saying: “I think number blocking can only be authorized by the central government.”
Responding to Majumder's post, Kanchan Gupta, senior adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, condemned the suspension as “unacceptable” and questioned the lack of details or allegations against the journalist.
