The authorities in Baraich, Uttar Pradesh, are intensifying efforts to capture two man-eating wolves under “Operation Bhediya”, which have killed eight people and injured many others since July 17.
Uttar Pradesh police and the forest department continue to search for two man-eating wolves in Baraich, where another child was injured and a woman was injured in a wolf attack.
A five-year-old girl was attacked late Monday while sleeping next to her grandmother at home, news agency ANI reported.
She was quickly rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.
The girl's grandmother told ANI that the wolf attacked the girl while she was sleeping, adding that their house had no door.
A neighbor of the family said they were shocked by the disturbance nearby and later learned the child had been attacked by a wolf.
Neighbors also confirmed that a team from the forest department has reached the spot. However, by this time the wolf had been driven away by the locals. The animal disappeared into the darkness, he added.
Earlier on Monday, 45-year-old Suman Devi was found injured in a suspected wolf attack and hospitalized.
So far, eight people have died due to wolf attacks in Balaich since July 17, while reports of suspected animal attacks have also been received in nearby Sitapur district.
According to news agency PTI, seven children were among the victims and about 30 people were injured.
Operation Bedia
The Uttar Pradesh police and forest department launched Operation Bhediya in Baraich district to nab the animals, which are said to be behind several attacks on villagers in the area.
Meanwhile, Gorakhpur district assistant director general Dr KS Pratap Kumar told ANI that the entire district has been divided into seven divisions and a team is working at all bifurcations.
“Under a dedicated strategy, the forest department is implementing a plan and the police department will also cooperate. The entire area has been divided into seven teams. Each Gram panchayat has also been equipped with a police team. Of course, we will succeed soon ,” he said.
