The National Medical Council has reintroduced “sodomy and lesbianism” as unnatural sex crimes into the forensics and toxicology curriculum for medical undergraduates.
In addition to defining virginity and defloration, legality and its medico-legal importance, it also brings back topics such as hymens and their types and their medico-legal importance.
These subjects have been canceled from 2022 as per the orders of Madras High Court.
The revised Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Curriculum, besides the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO), also includes “Description of legal capabilities including Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam ( BSA)”, civil and criminal cases, interrogations (police and magistrate trials), cognizable and non-cognizable offences”.
