Britain is set to build nine new offshore wind farms following the government's latest renewable energy auction, but campaigners fear it may still fall short of clean energy targets.
None of the nine new projects compared with last year include Hornsea 3 and Hornsea 4, the largest and second largest wind farm projects in Europe, off the Yorkshire coast.
They are part of a new wave of green power plans, including onshore wind farms and solar farms, that officials say will provide enough power for 11 million homes.
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said the auction put the offshore industry “back on its feet”, adding that the projects were “vital to delivering energy security for households across the country”.
