Two students were killed and three others seriously injured when their school bus collided head-on with a government bus in Kappagarh in Raichur district on Thursday, police said.
The bus, carrying 42 students, was heading to a private school when the accident occurred.
“Two people died, three were seriously injured and (some) other children were seriously injured. The injured were undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital, a police officer told PTI.
Police sources said some children lost limbs in the accident. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed condolences on the death of two school children.
“The children injured in the incident will receive free treatment, and the families of the deceased will receive compensation from the state government.” I share the grief of the parents who lost their children.
Steel and Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy also expressed shock over the incident.
“It is extremely sad that many more children have been seriously injured in this tragedy, with some losing limbs,” the former first minister said.
Kumaraswamy requested the state government to provide all free treatment to the injured children and announced immediate relief.
“Neglect to follow road safety rules and carelessness of drivers lead to such tragedies… It should be mandatory for everyone to obey traffic rules,” he said.
