“To overcome Western sanctions, Russian LNG producer Novatek sent Non-ice class LNG carrier Everest Energy enters the icy waters of the Northern Sea Route. This is the first time a traditional airline has attempted this route.
“This voyage represents a further escalation in the risk profile of Arctic shipping. Everest Energy is not licensed by Russia’s Arctic licensing agency, the Northern Sea Route Authority. It also flies the Paluan flag and its P&I insurance status is unknown.

The approved LNG is currently traveling through Russia on its way to Asian markets. There still appears to be a lot of ice in the East Siberian Sea, which may require icebreakers.
