Hurricane Helen fueled the widespread belief that global warming is making hurricanes more powerful, a belief fueled by media disinformation.
I even saw a really stupid comment from someone today where they said they could see climate change happening when they saw Helen's report.
Two simple facts show this to be nonsense.
First of all, official data shows that the number of major hurricanes in the world, that is, the most powerful hurricanes, is not increasing:

Second, NOAA made it clear earlier this year that there is no strong evidence of a century-scale increase in hurricanes or major hurricanes making landfall in the United States; nor in the proportion of hurricanes reaching major hurricane intensity in the broader Atlantic basin:
