The Australian Energy Market Operator, the industry body that oversees power supplies on Australia's east coast, has shied away from supporting the Australian government's claims that renewable energy will bring down prices.
The full video is well worth watching and the commentators explain in depth why renewable energy is the most expensive form of electricity and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
The man in the screenshot above is Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen, who insists that if you spend enough money on renewable energy, prices will come down – Australian Energy Market Operator takes charge Daniel Westerman apparently disagrees.
The senator who prompted AEMO chief Daniel Westerman to answer directly whether he supported the idea that renewable energy would bring down prices was LNP federal senator Matt Canavan, who I spoke to in person at the recent CPAC Australia conference. Matt Canavan and local MP Keith Pitt appear to be working hard to bring reasonable discussion about coal back into mainstream Australian politics.
