    Transcript:

About three years ago, Robert Whitehair of San Mateo, California removed the gas meter from his home and covered the line.

Whitehair: “And I myself had a great time removing the gas pipes from my home. It was fun to take a few pipe wrenches and start taking them out.”

This is a time for celebration. Whitehair and his wife have transitioned to their home, running completely with clean electricity.

First, they made their home more energy-efficient by adding insulation and cutting the bulb with LEDs.

They then installed solar panels and battery backup systems that provide more power than home use.

Whitehair: “In fact, we get hundreds of dollars in checks every year from local utility providers.”

Then, they replaced gas appliances with an electric stove, an electric heat pump water heater and an electric heat pump HVAC system.

Whitehair said the couple hopes to inspire others to do so. They emphasized on the signs in front that the houses are all electric and offer tours for more than 100 people.

Whitehair: “Some people who came in were excited because they wanted to do it themselves.
