'Crazy' plan from Australia involves stealing power from electric cars to stabilize grid

The Herald Sun's Andrew Bolt has news that self-righteous elites who think they're “green” have a new hare-brained idea to steal power Back From charging electric vehicles to stabilizing damaged power grids. [emphasis, links added]

    The story goes like this:

The plan, promoted this week by an academic from the Australian National University and naïve journalists from the ABC and The Age, aims to steal power from people's electric car batteries in a bid to save an electricity system damaged by other warming schemes.

    …

A paper published this week by the Australian National University said that after a major storm in Victoria this year left 90,000 homes without power, researchers used 16 electric vehicles to reinject electricity into the system.

Now it seems that no one with a brain really expects these progressive “intellectuals” to come up with reasonable policy suggestions. But their “plan” was really stupid, and Bolt explained why through the practical application of this plan:

Let's say there's a huge bushfire. They destroyed power lines like those that failed and triggered Victoria's blackout. The electric car you charged at home suddenly runs out of power to save the power system. Then the fire approached. Or a flood.

    What car do you drive?

What kind of idiot would suggest that the solution to staying safe when a severe storm hits is for you and your family to be trapped in your home while a severe storm hits, especially when you think about it These people keep telling us that natural disasters are going to get worse.

Progressive liberal idiots, that's what they are.

So what is the point beyond rational concerns about life and death?

Imagine charging your car overnight, only to wake up and realize The government has cut off the power used to be your—Hopefully you won’t need a car to get to school…work…grocery shopping…doctor’s appointments…vacation…or anything else for which people need a personal vehicle.

or, What happens when you say something on social media that “they” don’t like? De facto house arrest?

I mean, we conservatives already know that exercising our God-given rights morally has serious consequences—we lose our jobs and pensions, we suffer censorship and social media bans, we even get arrested, fined, jailed , and sometimes even killed.

Do we really trust governments not to abuse their access rights, or control Exceed Our freedom of movement? (Anyone who believes this absolutely deserves whatever comes to them.)

Bolt reported that such an energy-stealing scheme would of course only happen in an “emergency” situation…but what did Friedrich Hayek say? Oh, yes, that’s right:

“Emergency” has always been an excuse for the erosion of personal freedom protections.

    Another way to say it?

Governments that allow emergencies to break the law will create emergencies to break the law.

But there's more, because this is where it gets silly and hilarious:

[Lead author] Sturmberg's paper noted that the blackout to 90,000 customers in Victoria was “equivalent to stopping 6000 electric vehicles from charging at 5kW.”

Are these cars already consuming so much of our electricity?

Today, there are fewer than 200,000 electric vehicles on our roads. According to government plans, we should have up to 2 million electric vehicles by 2030.

What are the solutions to underpin the energy grid? Eliminate sewers, aka electric cars!
