Severe Thunderstorm Warning:
- Mecklenburg and Gaston counties until 6:15 p.m.
forecast:
- Wednesday afternoon, the heat index is expected to reach the 100 to 104 range over much of the Piedmont within a few hours.
- Fortunately, thunderstorms are in the forecast to cool things down.
- More clouds and storms Thursday and Friday will keep the heat from getting too out of hand.
- The weekend weather will be basically the same: cool showers and temperatures in the upper 80s.
