From: Christina Erne, Storm Team 10 Meteorologist:
Today is the third day temperatures in southern New England could reach 90 degrees or above, meaning a second heat wave of the season is possible. Away from the coast, temperatures are approaching 90 degrees, with heat indexes approaching 100 degrees. The weather at the beach is expected to be sunny to cloudy with a light breeze and a cool temperature of about 80 degrees. Our weather warning today is twofold, primarily that there will be some storms after the sun goes down.
Overnight, scattered showers and storms are possible, possibly bringing downpours, thunder and lightning, but the risk of severe weather is low in the southeastern Providence metro area due to the late onset of the storms. Thursday morning we woke up to damp skies with scattered showers, before the sun came out and temperatures dropped significantly.
