WICHITA, Kan. — The National Weather Service is predicting below-average temperatures and the possibility of showers and thunderstorms across central, south-central and southeastern Kansas this weekend. While no severe weather is expected, residents should prepare for the occasional storm.
The National Weather Service in Wichita is forecasting a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms west of I-135 on Friday morning, with temperatures between 85 and 91 degrees. The chance of storms increases significantly to 70% Friday night, especially in central Kansas with lows between 63 and 67 degrees.
A 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms is expected on Saturday, with highs between 79 and 84 degrees. The trend continues Saturday night, with a 60% chance of storms and lows of 62 to 67 degrees. Stormy weather continues into Sunday, with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms and cooler temperatures, with highs of 76 to 82 degrees.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible throughout the day today, especially in the morning west of I-135. Daytime highs in the area are expected to reach the mid-80s, with lows tonight dropping into the mid-60s. Temperatures will remain relatively pleasant but below average.
