Meteorologists predict a return to summer weather in the coming days, albeit briefly.
While southern Europe will suffer more intense and prolonged heat over the weekend and next week, Ireland and the UK will only get “brief glimpses” of warmer air in the region.
Carlow Weather, a respected atmospheric science communicator, wrote on social media: “The latest upper air temperature forecast, you can see that we only have a brief glimpse of warm air over Ireland, but temperatures are much higher over southern and eastern Europe. .

A band of very severe thunderstorms will move north from the mainland into south-east England by Saturday. Ireland's east coast will also experience heavy rainfall.
And one of the UK's leading forecasters has warned that the trend needs to be watched closely if the slowdown continues.
Forecaster Paul Blight said: “The latest 06Z UKM Global slows the advance of the upper trough further on Saturday and allows the 850mb plume axis to come very close to southeast England with the risk of severe thunderstorms/MCS close to the southeast. Required Watch this to see if the slowdown continues.
It does look like a period of more unsettled weather will be in store as a new jet core emerges from eastern Canada in a “very zonal flow” across the Atlantic towards Ireland and the UK.
Paul Bright said: “After the weekend of the last week of the month, it is feared that a new jet core will emerge from eastern Canada and flow across the Atlantic towards the UK, bringing more unsettled weather.”
