Pune, July 19: The India Meteorological Department in Pune has issued a red alert for six districts and an orange alert for nine other districts in the state, with heavy rain expected on Friday, an official said. The six districts on red alert include Ratnagiri, Pune, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Bhandara and Gondia, while the nine districts on orange alert include Mumbai, Palghar, Sai En, Raigad, Sindhudurg, Pune, Amravati, Wardha and Nagpur. Maharashtra: Heavy rain hits Mumbai; water accumulates in many parts of the city.
Orange alert will be in effect in Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Satara, Amravati, Yavatmal, Wardha, Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Bhandara and Gondia on Saturday. However, Ratnagiri and Raigad will continue to be on orange alert on Sunday, but most other districts will move into yellow or green zones. Heavy rains in coastal Konkan region, eastern Vidarbha region and parts of western Maharashtra over the past 72 hours have been a boon to the anxious farming community.
