A dangerous combination of heat and humidity will continue today. Like Sunday, highs will be around 90 degrees, but humidity will feel like 105 to 110 degrees by late afternoon. Continue to relax outdoors and take extra breaks in the shade or air conditioning. Check on your older friends, neighbors and family members to make sure they are staying calm.
A cold front arrives this afternoon before pushing south through the area tonight. Not only will it provide some relief from the heat, but it will also trigger some isolated showers and storms. These will begin to appear in areas north of Omaha as early as 3 p.m., but they are more likely to appear closer to the evening commute. At this point, they will be traveling along Interstate 80. Scattered storms will develop southeast of Omaha after the evening commute ends, possibly ending at 9 o'clock. Several storms are likely to be severe, with hail and damaging winds being major concerns.
Tuesday morning we will cool into the mid-60s overnight.
We're starting to feel a little better Tuesday afternoon, with temperatures in the mid-80s and lower humidity, but still a bit muggy. We'll see a mix of sunshine and clouds throughout the day. Scattered storms will move into areas north of Omaha in the late afternoon before pushing south toward Interstate 80 in the evening. By evening, storms will hit south of Interstate 80. The severe threat is low, but a few storms could bring hail or strong winds as well as heavy rain and lightning. There should be more storms around compared to Monday, but more than half the area will likely stay dry.
Wednesday is looking much better, with low humidity, below average temperatures, and lots of sunshine! Highs will be in the low 80s.
Thursday and Friday, temperatures will stay around 80 degrees with plenty of sunshine.
Scattered rain and storms will begin to move in late Friday and continue at times on Saturday. This will keep temperatures Saturday afternoon below average, near 80 degrees.
Sunday looks drier, with temperatures staying in the mid-80s.
