As flood risk rises, Latino landscaping and residents will learn to fight back with green infrastructure » Yale’s climate link
Transcript: As climate change brings more rain to many parts of the country, people’s yards and gardens provide an often overlooked opportunity to help reduce the risk of flooding. So to educate more people about so-called green infrastructure technology, the Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit called Ecolatinos has created a Spanish-language training program for Latino garden seats and local residents. Abel: “I want to learn more about how to make a difference, especially in my own community.” Fredemir Abel participated in the program last fall. He said he gained hands-on experience in managing rainwater. For example, he learned to build a rain…
One of our readers asked us: Is the change dated? We asked Dr. Rafael Méndez Tejeda to help us answer this question.Tejeda is an outstanding scientist specializing in physics and weather. He holds a PhD in physics from the University of Madrid, focusing on climatology and has a PhD in training on the impact of El Niño on the Caribbean Sea from the University of Florida. He has held important positions at the University of Puerto Rico in Carolina and led research projects on North Atlantic coastal erosion, climate management, and hurricanes. The Inflation Reduction Act, named by the O'Willie, was sold to Americans to cure the price rise, but from the outset, it was a lie. Instead of taming inflation, this huge law promotes excessive government abandonment, spending and economic damage. [emphasis, links added] As a Wisconsin in Wisconsin fighting for fiscal sanity and free markets, I call on Congress to do the right thing: to abolish every word of the IRA. No rescue of this disaster – must go. Let's reduce noise. IRA is not about reducing inflation. As a green policy, this is a $1.9 trillion electricity snap-up. It…
An industry chief warned that airline passengers will pay nearly $3 billion (£2.2 billion) a year as the EU and the UK impose net zero targets. [emphasis, links added] Willie Walsh, CEO of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), said the high costs and poor demand for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) mean passengers face even higher ticket prices. Mr Walsh, formerly CEO of British Airways, said he described the net zero rule behind the extra fees as “a big green scam in the EU” Brussels “don’t continue in its proposals” to improve measures that are completely ineffective. According to IATA,…
this August Chronicle An article published claims that climate change leads to the spread of invasive plant species. This is wrong. [emphasis, links added] Georgia data do not show climate change, whether in temperature or extreme weather, which makes the country more appropriate than before for invasive plant species, where it has actually been established for a long time. author August Chronicle Erica Van Buren wrote: “There is an increase in climate change symptoms in fuels in the southeastern Middle East”, writing: Symptoms of climate change include extreme calories, droughts and extreme weather, all of which significantly affect plant species.…
Home Secretary Doug Burgum posted a welcome news to a group of people in Alaska Sunday night: The Trump administration will take action to revoke Biden-era climate rules that lock millions of acres in future oil and gas developments. [emphasis, links added] Burgum made an unexpected announcement in Alaska's Utqiagvik (the northernmost community and residence of the Inupiat people) by Energy Secretary Chris Wright and EPA Chief Executive Lee Zeldin, and President Donald Trump Trump's National Energy Steering Committee. Under Burgum's direction, the Home Office will initiate formal rulemaking procedures on Monday morning to revoke the regulations. The action will…
James Gentz saw a large number of birds at his East Texas Rice and Paw Farm: snow goose and fangs, spoons and turquoise. However, the crane couple, who had been starting from 100 days, discovered the “magnificent”. These endangered long-necked behemoths arrived in 2021 and built nests in his flooded fields. “I just like to meet them,” Gentz said. Not every farmer is happy to receive birds. Some people are worried about the spread of avian flu, and some are worried that birds will eat too much precious crops. But with unstable climates, the temperature of water and chaotic storms…
Molten ice brings more ships to Arctic water, and more pollution » Yale's climate connection
Transcript: With the warmer climate and the sea ice melting, ships are able to sail the once impassable Arctic region. DAVIN: “This is bringing new opportunities for trade and development.” But Sam Davin of the World Wildlife Foundation in Canada said that this also creates new problems for Arctic communities and wildlife. Most ships burn heavy fuel, which can cause air pollution and may harm people's health. So last year, the IMO approved new regulations to help limit some pollution in the Canadian Arctic. They will ask ship operators to reduce airborne emissions – for example, by switching to cleaner…
Amazing news: We just received new reports about your donations to support our extreme weather coverage and we have surpassed our $10,000 target. Every donation we receive can help us protect more people, so we want to set a new goal: Can we get $20,000 from midnight tonight tonight? I am honored to write about the storm of Yale’s climate connection with my long-time colleague Jeff Masters, who continues to have a legendary career in this new era and continues to have a huge impact. Jeff reported in March that Doge's staff layoffs at NOAA Hurricane Hunter staff provided much-needed,…
