    Chicago (WLS) — Severe storms moving through the Chicago area Monday night prompted multiple tornado warnings.

    A flash flood warning The policy is in effect for Lake County (Illinois) until 12:30 noon (Central Time) on Tuesday.

    ABC7 Chicago meteorologists said the storm initially developed near the Iowa border and moved east toward Chicago. The storm reached the far west suburbs around 8 p.m. and Chicago after 9 p.m.

    All of Cook County was under a tornado warning until 10 p.m. Monday night, a rare occurrence.

    The Chicago Fire Department said it had received multiple calls Monday night about collapsed porches and downed trees. There have been no injuries from the incidents, but CFD said trees were down in much of the 70th Street and Campbell neighborhoods.

    ComEd said 304,427 Chicago-area customers were without power as of 11:30 p.m.

    Nearly 300,000 people were without power as downed trees knocked down power lines in the Chicago area.

    Tornadoes were also confirmed near the Aurora area and over Manhattan.

    A confirmed tornado touched down near Sugar Grove, Illinois, Monday night, ABC7 Chicago meteorologist Larry Mowry reports.

    Authorities closed a major intersection at Sugar Grove 47th and Galena after the traffic light apparently went out.

    According to ComEd, 2,000 or more customers may be without power in the Sugar Grove area. Police there said they had been fielding calls Monday night about the storm's impact.

    A spokesman for the Kane County Sheriff's Office said there were reports of a tornado along Interstate 88 near Highway 47.

    ABC7 reporter Eric Horng will be at the site of a confirmed tornado in the Sugar Grove area Monday night.

    Winds of up to 100 mph were reported in Homer Glen and New Lenox just after 9:30 p.m.

    Severe damage was reported in northwest Indiana around 10:30 p.m.

    The Indiana Turnpike has issued a wind ban throughout the roadway from 8 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday, prohibiting three-wheel tractor trailers, long double trailers (tall models only) and tall and oversized permitted loads.

    Metra Union Pacific Northwest inbound and outbound trains were stopped near Woodstock due to a high wind warning.

    The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago issued an Overflow Action Day alert on Monday and asked the public to limit water use to absolutely necessary.

    Monday's concert at Wrigley Field started early due to weather conditions.

    On Monday, the Storm Prediction Center classified the severe weather risk for much of Chicago as a Level 4. The risk level of the surrounding areas is level 3.

    The risk of a tornado within 25 miles of a given point is also 10%.

    Extreme heat and possible severe storms are in the forecast for Chicago on Monday. A tornado warning has been issued for the area.

    The threat of severe weather is expected to subside after midnight. The storm is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain.

    The heat index soared above 100 degrees early Monday after Sunday night's storm caused massive damage to the Chicago area.

    It should be a little cooler on Tuesday.
